Earlier this month, Ryan Murphy released glimpses of who is playing Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy for his upcoming anthology, American Love Story. Actress Sarah Pidgeon is playing the role, and as soon as the photos came out of how she’d look for Bessette; the internet had thoughts. The internet said the outfits were wrong, and the platinum blonde hair was wrong. And new photos show that one of them may have been fixed.

In photos from June 18, we can see Pidgeon and Paul Kelly as JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette walking around Manhattan for the show. You can see the photos below:

Do you see what we see? That’s right, the platinum hair Pidgeon originally had for the role completely changed: it’s now a honey blonde, much closer to the one Bessette had. And this change comes soon after former hair colorist Brad Johns, who worked closely with Bessette on her hair, called out the issue to Vogue.

“No one would believe that Carolyn in the ’90s would ever have that color from me. It’s too 2024,” he said before saying “we worked really hard to get [Bessette’s hair] right” back in the ’90s.

He detailed how he did it, saying he took her light brown hair into a blonde/ toffee shade, saying, “I went in and put the highlight chunks in three foils around the front of her face, and then two underneath for when she wore her hair up.”

“My goal was child-of-the-beach color,” he added. “Carolyn had beautiful hair. She was breathtaking and so hysterical. When she sees that color, she’s going to be swirling in heaven.”

So there you have it: it seems Murphy has changed up Pigdeon’s hair, and we can say, this definitely looks more like Bessette’s iconic mane.
