A new species of stick insect, measuring 40cm-long, has been discovered in a remote rainforest in Far North Queensland, Australia.
James Cook University adjunct professor Angus Emmott, who helped identify the new species, said the creature’s large size could be an evolutionary response to its cool, wet habitat.
The remote habitat was probably also why it had remained undiscovered for so long, Prof Emmott said.
