PUTRAJAYA: MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan along with his wife and two children will be issued a notice to declare their assets next week, says Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said that notices will be given on Monday.

“On Monday, they will come to the MACC headquarters here and we will hand the notices over. This is the procedure for asset declarations.

“Following that, they will be given a month to declare their assets.

“This asset declaration is being conducted under the MACC Act,” he told reporters after the 5th National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference yesterday.

Since Saravanan’s third child is still studying in London, that notice will be handed over in November, he added.

On Aug 28, the former minister claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur to three charges of graft involving more than RM1mil linked to foreign workers approval.

On another matter, Abd Halim said the statement recording process for former Felda chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Isa Samad has been paused as he recovers from a medical treatment.

“As he was unwell and sent to Hospital Serdang to undergo eye surgery, we have postponed it for the time being.

“We will record his statement again after receiving information on his health status from the Prisons Department.

“Once he has recovered, we will continue recording his statement.

“There is still a lot more information to be obtained from him,” he said.

Ongoing investigations into Felda and Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) will also see two suspects being charged next week, in relation to the irregularities surrounding the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project, he added.

“The former Felda general manager will face one charge under Section 420 (Penal Code) and the charge will be registered at the court on Sept 30.

“Meanwhile, the other person, the former chief executive officer of FIC will face two charges under Section 417, and the charges will be brought on Sept 29,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the Baja 3 fertiliser issue in Kedah, he said that investigations have concluded.

“We will refer the matter to the Attorney General’s Chambers and recommend prosecution.

“If they agree, we expect to charge the two suspects in court within the next week or two,” he said..

However, he refused to name the two suspects in question.

On the conference, Abd Halim said that six research topics had been presented by various speakers, including a study on integrity enforcement in the mining industry and one on crowdfunding and trust companies.

He added that based on the research presented during the conference, it was clear that each issue being discussed had its respective challenges.

“Sharing sessions such as these are important to ensure such research are given the attention needed and are considered as input in the effort to better integrity and management efforts,” he said.

The event was also attended by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
