KUALA LUMPUR: Nuan Nuan, the panda once adored for her cuddly charm and symbolic role in China-Malaysia relations, has captured fresh attention online—this time for chasing down a peacock in a surprisingly aggressive outburst.
The female giant panda, born on Aug 18, 2015, at Zoo Negara to Xing Xing and Liang Liang, was the first panda cub born in Malaysia under the 'panda diplomacy' programme. The pair was loaned to the Malaysian government in 2014 for 10 years in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
Nuan Nuan was returned to China in November 2017.
"Warm and friendly," the meaning of her name, captured what many saw as her easygoing temperament.

But a recent viral video shows a different side. In the clip, Nuan Nuan bolts after a peacock roaming freely in the enclosure, yanking out its tail feathers.
The encounter ends with the visibly distressed bird stripped of its vibrant plumes.
The footage has sparked both concern and amusement on social media, with some reminding viewers that pandas, despite their image, are still wild animals.
