KUCHING: Sarawak has recorded 14 longhouse fires in the first eight months of the year, leaving some 1,300 villagers homeless.

Sarawak fire and rescue assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said nine longhouses were destroyed completely while another five were affected by 10 to 20 percent.

The incidents also resulted in losses amounting to RM10.1 million.
