Ozzy Osbourne joked about what will be written on his gravestone in his 2010 autobiography, I Am Ozzy.

The Black Sabbath frontman, who died on July 22 at the age of 74, was bid a final farewell on July 30 in his hometown of Birmingham, England, where fans lined the streets to watch his funeral procession.

In an emotional display, Ozzy’s wife, Sharon, walked alongside family members, including their children, Aimee, Kelly and Jack, as well as one of Ozzy’s sons from his first marriage, Louis. Ozzy’s oldest children, Jessica and Elliot, didn’t appear to attend.

While it’s unclear exactly how Ozzy will be laid to rest, the heavy metal icon did discuss his last wishes in a 2009 autobiography, written long before his recent health issues, which included Parkinson’s Disease and a series of spinal surgeries.

“If I don’t live a day longer, I’ll have had more than my fair share,” Ozzy wrote in I Am Ozzy. “The only thing I ask is if I end up brain-dead in a hospital somewhere, just pull the plug, please.”

“Don’t get me wrong: I don’t worry about that kind of heavy-duty stuff on a daily basis,” he continued. “I’ve come to believe that everything in life is worked out in advance. So whenever bad shit happens, there ain’t nothing you can do about it. You’ve just gotta ride it out. And eventually death will come, like it comes to everyone.”

“I’ve said to Sharon: ‘Don’t cremate me, whatever you do.’ I want to be put in the ground, in a nice garden somewhere, with a tree planted over my head. A crabapple tree, preferably, so the kids can make wine out of me and get pissed out of their heads.”

As for what will be written on his gravestone, Ozzy had a good idea of what to expect.

“I ain’t under any illusions. If I close my eyes, I can already see it:Ozzy Osbourne, born 1948.Died, whenever. He bit the head off a bat.”

In 1982, Ozzy infamously bit the head off a bat that was thrown on stage in Des Moines, Iowa, during his second solo tour. “Immediately, though, something felt wrong. Very wrong. For a start, my mouth was instantly full of this warm, gloopy liquid,” Ozzy recalled in his autobiography. “Then the head in my mouth twitched.”

“Somebody threw a bat. I just thought it was a rubber bat. And I picked it up and put it in my mouth. I bit into it,” he said. The fan who claimed to be responsible for throwing the bat on stage later said that it had been dead for days by the time he brought it to the concert, according to the Des Moines Register.

After July 30’s funeral procession, Ozzy’s friends and family attended a private service.
