A 70-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident that left nothing except a few bits of broken car parts at the site.
But the Police were able to find the perpetrator and serve justice within 24 hours of the accident.
Back in 2019, Police responded to a collision involving a motorbike on Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 near Upper Thomson Road. When first responders got to the site, they discovered an elderly rider immobile on the road, with debris and newspapers strewn about near the motorcycle. Paramedics pronounced the 70-year-old senior rider dead on the site.
A witness told the police that he heard a collision at 5:50 a.m. and spotted a small lorry going towards Upper Thomson Road. He also noticed a lot of newspaper copies falling on the road behind the van.
Through video footage retrieved from traffic cameras in the vicinity and in-vehicle camera footage provided by motorists travelling along that road around the time of the accident, investigators were able to piece together the video footage to determine the sequence of events that led to the accident.
The driver was later identified as 28-year-old Muhammad Amin Bin Mohamed Noor who was working as a food wholesaler delivery driver. Traffic investigators were also able to locate the lorry at a workshop shortly after.
During the course of investigations, Amin had revealed to the investigators that he had several drinks before getting behind the wheel of the lorry on the night of the accident. He also admitted to not rendering assistance to the deceased after the accident as he knew that he was in trouble.
He was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment and disqualified from driving from all classes of vehicles for 10 years.

no pity for hit and run. especially for serious injury or fatal cases. maybe some of the victims might have survive if they have provide immediate medical assistance. just because they dared not own up, they choose to run away hoping to escape scot-free. A verdict of death sentence would be fair for hit and run cases if the victims passed on. to need to fled from scene, definitely no licence, drunk driving or drugs related.
