Pahang govt to set up Universiti Al-Quran in Unipsas campus

PEKAN: The Pahang government will set up Universiti Al-Quran within the Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (Unipsas) campus in Kuantan.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the matter is still under discussion, but the state government has agreed in principle to establish the university.

"We will hold discussions with the relevant minister and ministries," he said.

"For now, the proposed site is within the Unipsas campus. We hope when all requirements are fulfilled, we can proceed with the work," he said at SM Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah here today.

Earlier, Wan Rosdy launched the Pahang Makmur initiative to provide free reference and exercise books to 23,784 students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia this year.

On another matter, Wan Rosdy dismissed claims on social media that Pahang had the highest number of bullying cases in secondary schools in the country.

"I told the Pahang Education Department to investigate. I was told that the information is inaccurate. The department will disclose the latest figures.

"I was also told that no excessive or extreme bullying cases have been reported in the state."

On July 30, the Public Health Malaysia Facebook page, which is not affiliated with the government, claimed that Pahang had the highest prevalence of secondary school students being bullied at least once in the past 30 days.
