KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — The Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) held its annual Golden Global Awards (MGGA) ceremony at Zepp KL last night, celebrating cinematic excellence with a star-studded evening hosted by Alvin Anthons and Chrystina Ng.

The red carpet event welcomed a lineup of local and international celebrities, adding glamour to a night dedicated to honouring films that transcend borders.

More than 12 awards were presented, including a Lifetime Achievement Award for Hong Kong screen legend Ti Lung and the Award for Excellent Achievement in Film for Indonesian icon Reza Rahadian.

The Palestinian film All That’s Left of You, written, directed and produced by Cherien Dabis, took home the coveted Best Film award, having earlier clinched Best Screenplay.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Dabis reflected on the impact of the award.

“It’s deeply meaningful because the story is one that remains untold.

“With this recognition, I hope the world will finally see it — that people will begin to recognise it.

“Because ultimately, everyone needs to know the story of what happened to Palestinians — or rather, what hasn’t happened—for the past eight decades,” she said.

Filmmakers were also recognised for their craft, with Isabelle Stachtchenko winning Best Cinematography for Universal Language, and Lotfi Achour named Best Director for the Tunisian film Red Path.

International talent was in the spotlight too.

China’s Han Haolin won Best Supporting Actor for My Friend An Delie, while Park Mi-Hyeon of South Korea was named Best Supporting Actress for Winter in Sokcho.

Best Actor went to Mahmood Bakri for To A Land Unknown, and Juli Grabenhenrich won Best Actress for Paternal Leave.

The Red Path also received the New Hope Award, recognised for its powerful humanistic message.

Meanwhile, the Audience Choice Award went to Island to Island, a documentary by Malaysian director Lau Kek Huat.

The evening closed on a high note, capping off a festival dedicated to MIFFest’s mission of celebrating cinema beyond borders.

While the awards ceremony concluded the night, MIFFest officially wraps up today, marking another milestone in the festival’s journey.

Festival president Joanne Goh has already set her sights on the future, expressing excitement for the ninth edition of MIFFest, scheduled for 2026.
