On 20 May, heavy rain damaged six raw water pumps at Ranhill SAJ’s Sungai Johor treatment plant, disrupting the processing of raw water and causing widespread supply interruptions.
The disruption caused a daily loss of approximately 318 million litres of treated water, prompting an emergency meeting between the Johor state government and Ranhill SAJ on 22 May.
Ranhill SAJ’s chief operations officer, Khairul Effendy Tusam, apologised for the inconvenience and thanked consumers for their patience.
Despite technical challenges, the repair team restored water supply by 24 May.
The operator is now investigating the cause in detail, reviewing equipment maintenance and pipe alignment, with plans to improve procedures to prevent future incidents.
