PETALING JAYA: Young shuttler Kong Wei Xiang received a timely boost ahead of the Asia Team Championships after capturing his maiden boys' singles title in the Under-21 National meet.

The 17-year-old was the youngest member of the team selected for the team meet from Feb 3-8 in Qingdao, China and could not have asked for a better way to prepare after beating Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) teammate Mohd Haziq Najib 15-13, 16-14 at the Perak Badminton Association hall in Ipoh yesterday.
