SERDANG: Penang's Mohd Sayyid Amin Roslan showed he has the Midas touch in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) by winning the men's 400m gold medal at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Stadium here. 

The 19-year-old won, who chose to just focus on the 400m this year, clocked his personal best time of 47.20s, breaking his previous time of 47.68s on Monday (Aug 17). 

He is the reigning 200m Sukma champion. 

Sayyid was glad that he decided to focus only on the middle distance event. 

"It's not that I'm not ready to compete in 200m, but I know which is the better race for me now, and I chose to take part only in the 400m," he said. 

"I've been doing some endurance training, and it had given me the confidence to run the longer distance.

Selangor’s Mohd Daniel Haqiem took silver with a time of 47.61s, while Penang’s Mohd Farhan Isrulnizam came in third with a time of 47.66s.

In the women’s final, Johor’s Nor Malisya Mohd Ishak won the gold with a time of 55.93s, while Terengganu’s Noor Aliya Najihah Muda took silver with a time of 56.76s.

Sarawak’s Ormilla Octavia Cooday posted 57.03s to finish third.
