Huxe is shutting down, and the podcast generation app will pull its iOS and Android apps while installed versions work for seven days before user data is deleted.
The move came a day after Spotify launched a similar personal podcast feature.
Huxe was started in late 2024 by former NotebookLM developers and had raised US$4.6 million from backers including Conviction and Genius Ventures.
The company did not provide a specific reason for the shutdown. In an email sent to customers, the team simply stated that they were moving on to new things.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Huxe faced competition from its founders’ old project and a music giant
Huxe came from former developers of Google’s NotebookLM, a Google tool that turns documents and notes into AI-generated summaries and audio
1.
Its main product was personalized AI podcasts built from a user’s email and calendar. That replaced an earlier push into software for companies in March 2025
1.
Before Spotify entered, Huxe was already in a busy field. NotebookLM, the founders’ former project, had teamed up with Spotify on a “Wrapped AI podcast” in 2024
2.
The app launched publicly in September 2025, stayed free, and carried no ads. That suggests Huxe may not have had a durable business model before it shut down
3.
AI-generated audio is becoming a table-stakes feature, not a standalone business
Huxe’s collapse fits a common platform risk. Larger companies can copy a new feature and fold it into their own products, as Spotify did with a similar personal podcast tool in a separate desktop app
4.
That outcome was easy to see coming. One user built a personalized podcast with Google’s general-purpose NotebookLM plus a simple data export, which made the tech hard to defend as an edge
5.
The pattern in AI audio favors products woven into existing platforms or daily routines. Standalone apps face a tougher path
6.
Spotify also saves its AI-generated podcasts straight to a user’s library, which turns the idea into part of a broader service
