Pope Francis revealed yesterday that he was involved in a secret peace mission to try to end Russia's war in Ukraine as he vowed to do everything in his power to stop the conflict.

'I'm available to do anything. There is a mission that's not public that's under way; when it's public I'll talk about it,' the 86-year-old pontiff told reporters during a flight home after a three-day visit to Hungary.
