Gruesome footage captured a praying mantis eating a fly whilst it gave birth.

The animal kingdom can be extremely harsh, and Alastair Brown showed that with his own insects at home in Norwich, Norfolk.

As his dead leaf mantis took its prey in its hands and started to munch down, it became quickly apparent that the fly was giving birth to maggots in a real circle of life situation.

Alastair said: “Shortly after the mantis started eating it, I noticed the maggots coming out.
