Press Metal probes Samalaju facility fire, no injuries reported

BINTULU (July 18): Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out at its wooden stick storage facility in Samalaju earlier today.
In a statement, the company said the blaze was swiftly contained and no injuries were reported, adding that emergency response protocols were immediately activated once the incident was reported, it said.
“This operation involved coordinated efforts from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), and the plant’s Emergency Response Team (ERT).
“Their prompt action successfully contained the fire and prevented any further escalation.
“Safety remains a top priority, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the continued protection of personnel and property,” it said.
Bomba received a distress call at 12.37pm, prompting the deployment of nine firefighters from the Samalaju Fire Station.
Bintulu Bomba chief PgKB II Wan Kamaruddin Wan Ahmad said firefighters conducted a rapid size-up and deployed two 200-foot hose lines connected to a nearby hydrant.
“The fire was successfully brought under control. Overhaul operations are ongoing to ensure full extinguishment,” he said in a statement.
The operation involved a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), a Hilux utility vehicle, and a private vehicle.
