Property magnate celebrates birthday with rewards for buyers, staff incentive
Hunza Properties Group founder and executive advisor Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong marked his 84th birthday with two major announcements.
The property magnate first said a special incentive totalling RM1.5mil would be split among some 200 high-performing staff.
He described it as a token of appreciation for their efforts, which enabled the company to exceed revenue targets last year despite challenging global economic conditions.
Teng Tong sharing insights on the property market during his birthday address to his employees. This was on top of the regular annual bonuses and perks the company had given employees throughout its 47 years of operations.
“This extra performance-based reward is the first of its kind, but should we continue to achieve our strategic objectives, I’m confident it won’t be the last.
“We are cognisant of the high costs of living that many families struggle with today and hope that such gestures will provide meaningful support for employees.
“Our people are our greatest assets,” he said during a celebration at the group’s Penang International Commercial City (PICC) sales gallery.
The announcement was met with loud cheers from staff.
Company directors also joined in the festivities and various department representatives presented him with birthday gifts which included handmade items and personal messages.
They sang “Happy Birthday” as he blew out candles on a durian-flavoured cake before tucking into a buffet with local favourites such as roasted lamb, satay, laksa and char koay teow.
While many his age would be taking life easy, Teng Tong showed no signs of slowing down and has his hand on the pulse of developments in the property sector.
During his speech, he spoke about global economic changes, the tariff situation, a competitive business landscape and fragile buyer sentiment.
He said despite these challenges, he was optimistic in the group’s ability to weather the phase due to their professional expertise and deep-rooted fundamentals.
“What sets Hunza apart is our stellar track record of delivering enduring quality to buyers,” he said, before unveiling the second announcement – Hunza’s DoubleUp Campaign.
The campaign offers rewards totalling RM2mil for buyers of units at Senze @ PICC and Muze @ PICC, as well as the grand prize of the Hunza Diamond Car Credit worth RM300,000, which one lucky buyer can use to purchase their dream car from an appointed dealer.
Buyers can increase their chances by referring friends or sharing the campaign online, with bi-annual Deluxe Lucky Draws offering prizes worth up to RM100,000 each.
Purchasers also receive instant rewards such as Pop Mart blind boxes upon signing sales and purchase agreements.
Hunza Group executive director Khor Tze Ming said the undertaking of a massive project like PICC by a sole developer was unprecedented in Penang.
“Even when we complete the commercial hub in the next few years, we would have only unlocked 54% of the land’s total potential. There are many more exciting elements to come.
“This reflects the ambition we have for this landmark development,” she said.
