Public Bank prevents more than 1.12 mln customers from being victims of mule accounts
KUALA LUMPUR: Public Bank's scam prevention campaign known as PB Scam Ranger has successfully prevented more than 3.42 million transactions totalling RM1.65 billion involving more than 1.12 million customers from falling into fraudsters’ mule accounts as of September.
In a statement today, PBB said the PB Scam Ranger initiative features a mobile team of cybersecurity fraud experts travelling around Malaysia to raise awareness and educate the public on the latest scam trends.
Managing director and chief executive officer Tan Sri Tay Ah Lek said: "We continue to improve best practices when it comes to protecting our customers’ accounts.
"This includes working closely with the authorities to address the evolving nature of scams and frauds.”
Tay reminded customers to remain vigilant and updated on the various modus operandi of scams and frauds.
The statement said since introducing a "cooling-off period”, RM2.7 million involving 530 customer transactions were successfully prevented from "being lost” as a result of scams.
The bank said it uses a multi-channel approach via email campaigns, social media platforms, security alert light boxes, and online and mobile banking interfaces to educate its customers.
The bank urged customers not to reveal their identification (ID) and password "no matter how you are threatened” and avoid calling suspicious phone numbers or click on links received via social media posts, e-mails or short messages.
Customers were also reminded not to register for financial courses or investment schemes or respond to loan advertisements with low interest rates via social media platforms. - Bernama
