Earlier this year, in March, Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson surprised her fans by filing for divorcefrom her husband, Kevin Jay Anik. Now, she’s getting candid about how it all felt seeing her personal life being played out in the public eye.

“I remember seeing people be like, ‘She announced her divorce,’” Brunson remembered in a new interview with Bustle. “I didn’t announce anything.”

Brunson then explained that while she didn’t make a statement outright, the divorce filing was simply found on public records. According to People, her divorce documents, which were filed on March 19, listed October 2021 as their wedding date, had their date of separation as “TBD” and cited “irreconcilable differences” for the cause of their split.

“I think people have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move,” Brunson said. “None of us do. I promise you. No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life. It’s just that that’s public record information.”

Bustle then remembered Brunson about her latest house purchase making headlines too. “I hated that,” she said. “I hate all of it.”

This is the first time Brunson has spoken about her split from Anick. In fact, the former couple, who started dating in 2019 and got engaged in 2020, kept their relationship very private over the years.

Brunson only confirmed their 2021 marriage when accepting the Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series Emmy Award in September 2022.

“In case I am not back up here again, I have to thank my mom, dad, brothers and sisters, my cousins … my wonderful husband because he’s the most supportive man I’ve ever known and my incredible cast and show for helping me to make this show and make the pilot,” she said in her speech.

From the looks of it, Brunson will continue to keep her personal life and her real estate moves as private and quiet as possible moving forward.
