You may be hearing about more spooky stories during Hungry Ghost Month, but RIA 897 DJ Far has a eerie encounter of his own that did not happen during this period. 

Far tells 8days.sg the incident happened a few months after he joined the station, while he was hosting a show called Misteri Jam 12, which airs from 12am to 2am. 

Witching hour, anyone?

That night, Far was in the radio studio sharing stories live on air.

Sitting on a nearby table was a paper bag containing a phone and a wireless microphone.

Nothing particularly spooky there.

"I suddenly heard a very loud thump coming from the table where the paper bag was placed," Far recalls.

The noise caught him completely off guard -- while he was live on air, no less.

"I was stunned. I even gasped loudly, and it took me a few seconds to gather my courage to continue with my story," he says.

Far has shared the audio recording with 8days.sg and having heard it ourselves, let's just say the thump wasn't exactly subtle.

And honestly, continuing with the show instead of immediately leaving the conti was already brave.

Once he had finished telling the story, Far went over to investigate.

The paper bag had fallen onto its side. But here's the part Far still can't explain.

As a radio jock, Far knows exactly how sensitive the equipment in the studio is.

He explains that the microphone in the studio was a dynamic mic rather than a condenser mic, meaning it wasn't particularly sensitive to ambient noise. So it was unusual for the thump to come through loud and clear in his headphones.

"The fact that I could hear that sound loud and clear in my headphones means the sound was very loud lah," Far says. "As though 'someone' purposely slammed the thing on the table."

"But there was no wind or any movement in the conti, so how could the paper bag suddenly drop? And it's just a phone and wireless mic. How could it be so loud?"

After all this time, has Far ever figured out what happened that night? 

"I still don't have any answers for it till now," he laughs.

So it's still anyone's guess if maybe the bag wasn't balanced properly... or perhaps Misteri Jam 12 had one extra listener that evening.
