Reckless motorbike stunt on second Penang bridge sparks police probe

NIBONG TEBAL: Police have launched an investigation after a viral video emerged showing a group of high-powered motorbikes dangerously weaving along a lane designated for cars on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge

The 33-second video, uploaded to Facebook by local page Penang Kini, has sparked concerns among road users and prompted swift action from the Seberang Prai Selatan district police.

District police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou said the incident occurred in the car direction heading from Batu Kawan towards Batu Maung about 4.35pm last Friday.

"This act is not only dangerous to the riders themselves but also poses a serious risk to other road users," he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless and dangerous driving that endangers public safety.

Jay urged the public, who may have further information about the incident, to assist in the investigation by contacting the district police's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at 04-5859222.

"Road safety is a shared responsibility.

"We urge all motorists to abide by traffic laws for the safety of everyone on the road," he added.

The video has since gained widespread attention online, with many users expressing concern over the blatant disregard for traffic rules and safety protocols.
