Repeat offender receives five years and two months prison sentence for drug abuse

KUCHING (March 17): A habitual drug offender and mother of five was sentenced to five years and two months in prison by the Sessions’ Court here today for abusing methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Judge Iris Awen Jon delivered the sentence to Mariana Dan, 39, after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act.
Section 39C(1)(b) of DDA 1952 provides for a prison sentence of no less than five years and not exceeding seven years, along with a maximum of three strokes of the cane upon conviction.
