Direct cash assistance will be provided to Singaporeans who are self-employed, as part of measures in the Resilience Budget, said DPM Heng Swee Keat in his Supplementary Budget Speech in Parliament on 26 Mar 2020. This group, which includes taxi and private-hire car drivers, real estate agents, media and art freelancers, and sport coaches, usually have less income security and may be worse affected during this period of uncertainty. As part of the measures, eligible self-employed persons will receive $1,000 a month for nine months, and will have the option of train and upskill under the Self-Employed Person Training Support Scheme, which has been extended to December 2020. In addition, Workfare recipients will receive an increased payout following enhancements to the Workfare Special Payment.
