Rosie O’Donnell has reflected on her controversial joke about Anne Heche from two decades ago, in light of the actress’ car crash. 

Heche, 53, is currently in a coma following a fiery car incident last Friday, in which her blue Mini Cooper crashed into a two-storey residential building. 

No one else was harmed but Heche was rushed to hospital with significant lung damage and burns before ‘slipping into a coma’, her spokesperson recently revealed. 

She was previously said to be stable but the rep clarified that this is not the case, and Heche remains in a coma. 

In light of the incident, O’Donnell, 60, has addressed a former joke she made about the Emmy-winning actress in 2001. 

Heche, who is best known for roles in Donnie Brasco and Another World, spoke to Barbara Walters on 20/20 about how she created a ‘fantasy world’ and an alter-ego called Celestia to help her cope with being sexually assaulted during her childhood.
