As you probably know by now, billionaire Jeff Bezos married his long-term girlfriend Lauren Sánchez last week, with a whole host of famous faces flocking to Italy to watch them tie the knot in Venice.

However, the extravagant celebrations have sparked serious controversy, with Venetian locals and environmental groups protesting the wedding over concerns for overtourism in the city.

It’s worth noting that Jeff and Lauren pledged to donate to three Venetian charities to help safeguard the city’s cultural heritage and support its residents amid their lavish nuptials. 

Other criticism has stemmed from the skepticism surrounding billionaires more generally, with Forbes estimating that the wedding festivities would have cost around $25 million.

With both of these concerns in mind, the hordes of celebs who attended the celebration have faced scrutiny, particularly Leonardo DiCaprio, who regularly uses his social media platform to educate his followers on climate change and the importance of protecting the environment.

Other stars who were in attendance include the Kardashian-Jenner family, sans Kourtney Kardashian Barker, Sydney Sweeney, Orlando Bloom, and Oprah Winfrey, alongside her best friend, Gayle King.

And Rosie O’Donnell called out Oprah specifically when she shared a scathing post about the Bezos wedding on Monday. Rosie published the full post to her Substack, but drew attention to it by sharing an excerpt to her Instagram account alongside “Then” and “Now” photos of bride Lauren.

“It turned my stomach Seeing all these billionaires Gathering in the gross excess of it all, The show of it,” Rosie’s post began. “Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos, Really - how is that possible, He treats his employees with disdain, By any metric he is not a nice man.”

“And his fake fem bot wife, Who looks like that, Why would he choose her After the salt of the earth Mackenzie,” she went on, name-checking Jeff’s first wife, MacKenzie Scott. “Sold his soul Is what it looks like from here The devil is smiling At all his conquests.”

Rosie then mentions some of the troubling things that are going on in the world at the moment, including concerns for the LGBTQ+ community amid Donald Trump’s presidency, and the suffering in Gaza, before accusing Bezos’s wedding guests of “worthless performative nonsense.”

“We have become numb to gross excess, We have learned to tolerate it, Celebrity worship Devoid of humanity,” she adds, Rosie’s post later concludes with: “Something inside has died And I cant hide I just cant fake it.”

Earlier this year, Rosie was in the headlines after she revealed that she had relocated to Ireland after Trump’s reelection, and does not plan on returning to the US until he is out of office.

Meanwhile, Rosie isn’t the only celebrity to call out those who attended Jeff and Lauren’s wedding, with actor Charlize Theron taking a swipe at the guests when she told attendees at an Africa Outreach Project party: “I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding. But that’s ok because they suck and we’re cool.”
