Anyone here has experience of bars or restaurants prioritising service of expats Over local patrons?

We were at a bar that’s popular with expats and we couldn’t help feeling that we were prioritised last by the service vs the other foreign patrons.

We were by no means difficult. We kept to ourselves except when ordering and asking for the bill. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time I’ve experienced something like that.

Pre covid I’ve had a couple of similar experiences elsewhere. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Edit: well what the heck? Decided to search reviews and sort it by lowest and the first one star review said that he was discriminated at the place because he’s singaporean.

Ah yeah I did, it was probably mid 2010s and I went to the bar just near my office with a few friends (it was a Friday evening). We approached the wait staff and asked if there was a table for 3-4 pax, it was crowded and the staff did a cursory glance and told us it was fully booked.So we turned around and left. But literally behind us was a group of expats, same number of people and went up to the same wait staff and asked for a table. The response was totally different. She told them yeah it’s full but she’ll help them see if there was a table and went around looking. We went like wth but didn’t bother with creating drama.

It happens from time to time, particularly at the higher-end Western places. We can spend the same amount but the staff will only snap to attention or beam at the foreign diners.

Not a bar but a taxi, and I don’t think it’s just a spending thing. I’m a Singaporean female. I was once with a New Zealand male friend of mine and we were in a cab together. I gave the cabbie directions. When we arrived, I paid the cabbie.The cabbie turned around, gave me the change, turned to my friend who had said nothing, and said “Thank you, sir”. Then ignored me.What!?
