We've always been a little sceptical about stories of divine intervention, but Taiwan-basedSingaporean singer and entrepreneur Shane Zhao Qun’s experience is quite the tale.

The 36-year-old recently revealed that his life took a dramatic turn after meeting a spirit medium.

He had been going through a three-year career slump and was even sidelined by his management agency.

That's when a friend introduced him to a spirit medium for the deity Third Prince, or Nezha.

Shane was sceptical at first, but during their second meeting, before he could even share his troubles, the medium told him his problem was that he “didn't have enough money”.

Turns out, Shane was stuck in a contract with his management agency and needed NT$1mil (S$42K) to terminate it.

The medium then suddenly asked: “Do you want to take me to Sichuan?”

Apparently, Nezha wanted to go on a holiday.

So Shane arranged a six-day, five-night trip to Sichuan and even carried a statue of the deity with him throughout the journey.

After returning to Taiwan, Shane said his fortunes began to change.

In 2020, he got involved with Singapore potato chip brand Aroma Truffle, eventually becoming its Taiwan distributor and managing partner and making his first pot of gold.

His other investments, including beverage businesses and stocks, also paid off.

“This is all too miraculous!” he said.

The medium also had a hand in Shane's showbiz career, suggesting the stage name Zhao Qun. His real name is Tan Yu Xuan.

Shane was told he could use the name for 30 years, prompting him to ask what would happen after that.

The reply? “What more could you want at age 60?”

Shane moved to Taiwan in 2017 to pursue showbiz after giving up a cushy career as an actuary.

He reportedly earned around NT$250K (S$10K) a month while modelling on the side, but quit after almost two years despite his parents' objections.

He went for numerous commercial and acting auditions while living off his savings, before eventually becoming a regular on Taiwanese variety show Half and Half.

His potato chip business also came about through the programme.

Shane reportedly introduced Aroma Truffle's chips on the show, which unexpectedly led to him becoming the Singapore brand's distributor in Taiwan.

The brand later got an unexpected boost when Korean star Song Joong Ki was seen eating its chips in hit 2022 K-drama Reborn Rich. According to Taiwanese reports, sales subsequently soared.

Despite everything that's happened, Shane insists he hasn't become superstitious.

Instead, he says his faith has given him greater conviction, and he's since channelled the setbacks and uncertainty he's experienced into his music.
