The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will sound the public warning system (PWS) islandwide on Sept 15, at 6.20pm

During the sounding, the "Important Message" signal will be sounded through the PWS sirens and smartphones with the SGSecure mobile app installed.

Members of the public connected to the Singtel network will also receive an SG Alert on their mobile phones.

SCDF said that SG Alert complements the PWS by quickly alerting the public and providing information on actions to take during an emergency.

During an ammonia leak incident at a ice and cold storage facility in Jurong on June 29, an SG Alert was sent out to people in the area.

They were advised to stay clear of the area.

SCDF sounds the PWS sirens annually at 6.20pm on Feb 15 and Sept 15.

The annual sounding and broadcast message are part of the SCDF's continuous efforts to familiarise the public with the PWS signals and to raise awareness on how the public should react upon hearing the signal.

Members of the public should tune in immediately to any local radio stations or free-to-air TV channels upon hearing the "Important Message" signal.

For this year's Exercise SG Ready 2026, held in support of Total Defence Day, the SCDF made a one-off change to the sounding date — from Feb 15 to Feb 1 — to remind Singaporeans that disruptions can occur at any time.
