PETALING JAYA: SEMICON Southeast Asia 2023, the region’s premier gathering for global electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, will take place in Penang on May 23-25, 2023, at Setia SPICE Arena & Convention Centre.
In a release today, Semiconductor Equipment & Materials International (SEMI) said the event will cover sustainability, smart manufacturing, smart mobility, smart medtech and workforce development.
Themed “Boosting Agility and Resiliency of the Electronic Supply Chain in Southeast Asia”, the event will gather experts from around the world to explore ways for the electronics industry to build a more robust supply chain as it navigates the current economic downturn and ongoing disruptions.
“Megatrends that include automation, the growth of artificial intelligence and soaring demand for electric vehicles continue to drive the dynamic semiconductor industry in the region,” said the president of SEMI Southeast Asia, Linda Tan.
She added that the event, which will be held in collaboration with the Penang government, via InvestPenang, will be leveraging the state’s expertise and understanding in the semiconductor industry.
Highlights of the event include a CxO Summit, roundtable discussions on investment opportunities, workforce development, forums, and more.
Last year the event, which was also held in Penang after a three-year hiatus, saw some 14,000 delegates present.
Lee Kah Choon, special investment advisor to the Penang chief minister, said: “Penang has demonstrated its significance in the E&E (electricals & electronics) sector by constantly contributing between 56% and 60% of the country’s E&E exports over the past four years.
In 2022, the state reached its all-time high of RM452 billion in total exports and recorded a trade surplus of RM126 billion, representing 49% of the country’s total.
