Liverpools only signing during the summer transfer window was Ibrahima Konaté.The 22-year-old signed from RB Leipzig for £36 million, but still hasnt officially made his debut for the club in a competitive game. The Frenchman has been on the bench for all three of Liverpools games so far this season, but it hasn't translated to a single minute on the pitch.Yet its only a matter of time before that happens. With Virgil van Dijk the obvious starter in central defence, Joël Matip has been given the nod to start alongside the towering Dutchman thus far.Matip has done well, and is rightfully earning his place alongside Van Dijk, but it must be remembered that both are just coming back from long injury layoffs, and will need to be rotated and not over-utilised in the early going of the campaign. This is where Konaté will come in to play, alongside the returning Joe Gomez.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesEven though he hasnt yet played for the club, an important facet of any new recruit often overlooked by fans is how a player settles away from the pitch.Takumi Minamino struggled due to the timing of his arrival, coming to the club just as the coronavirus pandemic enforced the world to retreat behind four walls and a roof. His lack of bonding and interaction with team-mates hardly helped his acclimatisation process to a new club in a new league and country.Thiago Alcántara and Kostas Tsimikas joined last summer, when one season almost merged straight into another, giving the new signings little time to form a relationship with their new teammates off the pitch. For Konaté, this hasnt been an issue, according to Sadio Mané.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesHe is a very nice lad and from the first day he was with us I was really surprised because it was like he has been here for years, Mané told the clubs official website. With myself that was not the case because I am a bit shy, but he just came in and settled straightaway which is really important. You could see in pre-season that he was doing well from the start and we are really, really happy to have him. I feel that this year he will have a great season for Liverpool.Gomez also supported Mané's assessment of Konate. Ibous [Konaté] top, said Gomez. Hes a great player and has adapted straight away to our style of play.Obviously it can be high-intensity sometimes but hes got all the attributes to thrive I think.Being only 22, Konatés time at Anfield will surely come. He was bought with an eye to the future. Van Dijk and Matip, both over 30, wont last forever, and whilst he isnt seeing any game time at the moment, the fact that hes seamlessly integrated into the club is very good news for all concerned. The EFL cup third round clash against Norwich in late September is likely to be Konatés debut for the club, if it doesn't come sooner. With the games then coming thick and fast from then until Christmas, he will be slowly incorporated in Jürgen Klopps starting XI.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
