Chinese actor Chen Zheyuan, 28, best known for his appearance in the popular romance drama series Hidden Love (2023), recently attended a Shiseido brand event held in Xi’an.

While the well-loved star drew large crowds to the venue, he unfortunately, also encountered one very handsy fan.

At the event, Zheyuan posed for photos on stage and had a quick meet-and-greet with the brand's staff. As the session came to a close, one of the sales assistants abruptly reached out to lock Zheyuan in a bear hug. Zheyuan appeared stunned by her actions and froze, his arms stiffly glued to his sides.

The sales assistant was asked by a stage staff to let go of the visibly uncomfortable Zheyuan.

The clip of Zheyuan and the over-enthusiastic sales assistant soon went viral online, with many criticising the latter for her inappropriate actions.

The sales assistant later made an online post, apologising for “not controlling her actions as she was too caught up in the moment”. She also expressed her regret for “neglecting the actor’s physical condition” and for not displaying the level of professionalism that is expected of someone in her role.

Despite her public apology, netizens remain upset. She did little to curb their criticism, and has received comments labelling her actions as “sexual harassment”.

“Her actions were very unseemly, I suggest she gets fired,” asserted one netizen.

Fans of Zheyuan have also requested that the brand implement strict measures that ensure artistes are safe and respected during public events.
