Sam Altman doesn't think the world needs a dedicated device to take advantage of generative artificial intelligence, but that isn't stopping him from developing multiple projects in the sector. 

The OpenAI leader told the MIT Technology Review that although he's excited by the concept of AI-dedicated devices, he still believes that most AI-powered use cases will be achievable through a cloud-connected app on your phone, basically a smarter and more capable version of ChatGPT. Altman also indicated he might not be the person best-suited to bring an AI-first device to the mainstream, even as he's rumored to be raising funds for his own AI device startup.
