In the season 2 finale of And Just Like That in 2023, longtime fans of Sex and the City got a treat. For the first time since Sex and the City 2 in 2010, Kim Cattrall was back on our screensas the iconic Samantha Jones. But while the scene was brief and left fans begging for more, it seems the creators of And Just Like That are still trying to keep Samantha around.

In the fifth episode of season 3, which aired on June 26, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) reaches out to Samantha over text after a not-so-friendly meeting with her downstairs neighbor, Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake). Because Reeves is British and seemingly famous because of his career as an author, Carrie’s sure that Samantha, who now lives in London, knows about him and wants some intel.

“What do you know about Duncan Reeves?” Carrie texts Samantha. “They say he’s a lot of fun. Why?” Samantha replies back. “He’s living under me,” Carrie sends. “I wish he was under me,” Samantha quips.

Of course, while this interaction is a far cry from seeing Cattrall on our screens as the legendary sexpot she made famous, there’s something so heartwarming about seeing Samantha and her humor again. Because indeed, that’s exactly how she’d respond to Carrie’s news.

“Hey, Samantha says that Duncan Reeves is known to be fun,” Carrie then tells Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). “Well, he’s life 6’5″ so that’s her kind of fun,” Miranda says back.

Prior to Samantha’s virtual appearance on the show, Cattrall made it clear that she has no intention of starring in And Just Like That. In July 2024, she even shut down a news article reporting on her season 3 return.

“Aw, that’s so kind, but I’m not,” Cattrall wrote in a tweet.

As a reminder, feud rumorshave long followed Cattrall and the rest of the SATC cast, including Parker herself. After all, after Cattrall reportedly disputed her salary on the show and later refused to star in a third SATC movie, she wasn’t even invited to star in the HBO Max title.

From the looks of it, however, the creators of the show are still keeping her character in mind, and doing everything they can to keep Samantha’s essence on the show, Cattrall in it or not. Is it the same as having Cattrall onscreen? Absolutely not. Will fans still chuckle at Samantha’s joke? We surely think so.
