MUAR: Three friends including a woman, who were all facing the death penalty for drug related offences, were spared the hangman’s noose when the High Court here acquitted and discharged all the charges against them.

Yuslaili Ahmad, 41, Iman Suhatman, 34 and Izatul Afiqah Khairudin, 33, faced three charges each for trafficking 286 gram of methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA), 0.20 gram of monoacetylmorphines and 0.37 gram of heroin.

All the charges were under Section 38B (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act and Section 12(2) of the same Act.

Yuslaili on the other hand faced four additional charges for possession of small quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, morphine and nitrazepam.

Justice Halijah Abbas ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against all the accused.

A total of 10 witnesses were questioned during the trial.

According to the charge sheet, the suspects were arrested at about 11.45am at a house in Sungai Suloh in Batu Pahat on Oct 15, 2018.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Hidayat Wahab prosecuted the case while Yuslaili was represented by counsel Sukhaimi Mashud, Iman by counsel G.Subramaniam Nair and Selvanteran Segaran while Farhan Maaruf for Izatul.
