A pupil from Harris Girls' Academy Bromley in Beckenham, Kent, was allegedly slapped in the face by a tour guide during a trip to Iceland. A video of the incident has gone viral

A school has said it has reported a tour guide for allegedly slapping a student and then chasing after her in a corridor during a trip abroad.

Footage of the incident involving a pupil from Harris Girls' Academy Bromley in Beckenham, Kent, has sparked outrage after being shared on social media. People have been calling for answers from the school and many said the person involved in the incident should be sacked and arrested.

It was initially claimed that the woman slapping the pupil was a teacher, but this afternoon Harris Federation said the adult is not from the school and has been reported to the police. They added that the incident happened during a trip to Iceland and the children are safe.

Many people have been calling for answers after the clip was reshared online by The Black Child Agenda - a group aiming to challenge and change the "unfair and bias treatment" Black children face in schools. In an update shared this afternoon, The Black Child Agenda said the pupils were at Hotel Ork in Iceland when the alleged incident happened.

In the clip, a white woman can be seen gesturing towards a Black girl, and the pair have a brief conversation, and the pupil appears to say: "Please, don't come near me." At that point the tour guide allegedly slaps the kid. While someone screams "oh my God", the student can be seen running away, as the woman chases after her in a corridor in front of shocked witnesses.

As the camera turns away, the adult appears to tell the child: "Don't be so menacing." On social media, many have been calling for the adult involved in the incident to be sacked and prosecuted. A person wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "This is disgusting. I hope she’s sacked and prosecuted by the police." Another added: "Apparently she's not a teacher, she's a tour guide. Either way it needs to be investigated and dealt with asap!"

One more person commented: "I can’t believe what I’m seeing with my own eyes & hearing with my own ears." A social media user urged the school to act, saying: "We require not only action but an update and statement for this unacceptable behaviour and treatment."

Harris Federation said in a statement this afternoon: "The adult in this clip, which was filmed on a trip to Iceland, is NOT from our school. The children are safe and ok, and we’ve reported the adult to the police, who are rightly taking it seriously. We share your disgust and are supporting the police investigation."

The Mirror has contacted the school, Ofsted, and Hotel Ork for comment. The Metropolitan Police said the incident will have been reported abroad since it did not happen in the UK.
