CYBERJAYA: Bus passengers in Selangor demonstrate high compliance with seatbelt regulations, according to the state’s Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Its director, Azrin Borhan, during a compliance check at the Dengkil R&R Centre, said that the department had inspected 56 buses, with around five here at the location so far.
“We have also deployed undercover officers to ride the buses as part of our checks.
“These operations are ongoing and will be conducted from time to time,” he said.
“If the seatbelts are found to be damaged, we will instruct the bus owner to repair them promptly. Those who do not comply will be issued a summons,” he said, adding that all buses made and on the road after 2020 would be required to have seatbelts ready for passengers.
On Sunday (June 29), the JPJ said that it was mandating the installation and use of seat belts for all express and tour buses starting 1 July.
