Odorous gases that can dissolve in water courses, and subsequently escape from the water due to turbulence induced during treatment are Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulphide. These gases will cause odour nuisance when they stay in the environment around the plant. Somewhere upstream, these gases came into contact with the flow path of water going to the treatment plant. Hydrogen Sulphide gas is commonly found in underground water whereas ammonia is is commonly found on surface water.
