Amazing that such a collapse could happen. Some workers are not doing maintenance properly

"water accumulation", this reason abit 牵强 cos any big fixture attached or connected to the main duct must be properly secured so it may be the negligence of the maint people failed to check the bolt and nuts around it.

Duct collapse due to water accumulation is a real possibility. The density of water is 1, 000kg in one cubic meter space. When air is cold, water condenses on the cold surfaces due to the cold air temperature. Water moisture in the cold air becomes saturated and change state from vapour to liquid. If the air con duct insulation is damage, and the cold surfaces exposed to warmer outside temp causing condensation on the cold duct walls surfaces is highly possible. Just like your car wind screen in the early hours of the morning when the air is cold. Air con duct mainly constructed of aluminium sheets are quite light weight. The anchors suspending these ducts are not designed for heavy loads. So when water accumulate inside the duct, they have no where to go. As time passes, more and more water accumulate in the duct until the water load exceeds the suspension anchors load capacity. At this point the anchors give way. The surest way to prevent duct collapse is not only to carry out regular inspection. The best engineering control is to place drain points at several location at the lowest grade of the duct and regularly discharge any accumulated water inside. This way, the anchor load carrying capacity will not overload.
