JOHOR BARU: The conditional movement control order (MCO) has enabled business owners, especially those selling Hari Raya Aidilfitri cookies, to operate after being closed since March 18. However, they said there are still many customers who prefer to make purchases online. Sue Home Bakers shopowner Suhaiza Ibrahim said the majority of her customers were making orders online, to stay safe. “The biggest order I received to date is 400 jars of cookies worth RM10,000. “I usually get RM100 to RM200 worth of orders on a daily basis before. “I have some 20,000 containers of cookies that we expect to be sold out before Hari Raya,” she said when met at her shop at Plaza Angsana Johor Baru Mall here. Suhaiza said sales at her shop was slowly picking up due to her continuous promotions on social media. “I reopened for business on May 4 and although sales is not as good as in previous years, online sales is helping to bring in income,” she said, adding that her cookie production had also been reduced by half. Nahar Power Sdn Bhd owner Mohd Naharudin Isa said sale of his cookies had reduced. “Most of my customers used to be Singaporeans and given the situation, sales is slow. “We usually produce about 10,000 containers of cookies in a month leading to Hari Raya but this year we only managed to produce about 5,000 due to MCO. “The biggest order so far is for 500 jars of cookies costing RM10,000,” he said, adding that his orders usually come from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Mohd Naharudin said the cookies would usually be sold to a middleman to be distributed and resold either at supermarkets or online. “Our most popular cookies this year are the red cherry, crunchy caramel oat, pineapple tart, cashew nut and ‘rempeyek’,” he said. He added that his shop also sells traditional Hari Raya cookies such as kuih makmur, kuih bangkit and kuih suji.
