KUALA LUMPUR: Newly-appointed Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) director-general Datuk Seri Shuhaily Mohd Zain has brought his no-nonsense approach to the fledgling agency, warning his new charges against involvement in "counter setting" syndicates.

In a video shared by the agency on TikTok, Shuhaily delivered a fiery speech, warning that there would be zero tolerance for any officer or personnel under his command found guilty of misconduct or corruption.

"When incidents like this involve your own children, only then will you truly understand. I've had parents come to me in tears because some of you allowed these individuals to go free.

"Is that what you want, for the same fate to befall your own children? This is the reality I faced daily in the criminal context. My responsibility now is to ensure such things do not happen again," he said.

While Shuhaily did not explain the context of his speech, it is understood that he was referring to the arrest of a junior immigration officer over alleged 'counter-setting' activities yesterday.

"Firm action will be taken against any officer or personnel involved in tarnishing the name of the agency and its core departments," MCBA said in a statement accompanying the video.

This is not the first time Shuhaily has delivered a hard-hitting message. In 2023, during his tenure as Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director, he made headlines with a blunt warning to his officers: "Either you change, or you will be changed."

"I'm not asking for money. I just want you to do your job," he was quoted as saying during an address to CID officers at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang.

Upon taking over as MCBA chief, Shuhaily made it equally clear that there was no place in the agency for those who prioritised personal gain over their responsibilities.

He said his stance was not new, but a continuation of values long upheld by the police leadership.
