PETALING JAYA: How lucky can mixed doubles shuttler Chan Peng Soon be?

The Rio Olympic Games silver medal winner Peng Soon had the opportunity to play badminton with singer Ed Sheeran during the latter's recent Tour's Asian leg in Kuala Lumpur. The British pop star won the hearts of his fans here with an electrifying show at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

Peng Soon, who runs the CPS Badminton Academy, said he was super lucky.

"It was an honour to spend an hour with the singer on court. I'm so lucky," said Peng Soon, who attended the singer's concert on Saturday.

"He was such a sport, and this was a great way to promote the game.

Peng Soon, who was called up before the concert as Sheeran wanted to get a taste of Malaysia's most popular sport, uploaded the video of the fun time he had with the singer on his social media. They also exchanged jerseys.

And when asked whether there was an opportunity for a duet between Sheeran and Peng Soon's wife Ester Cham May May, who is also a singer with the local band named Da.Mon.Ster, Peng Soon laughed it off.

On his social media though, he wrote: "Next time when I have the opportunity to go to England, I may go and practice singing songs."

Peng Soon, who won the Olympics silver with Goh Liu Ying, will retire from the sport after playing in his last tournament at the Malaysian Masters in May with current partner Cheah Yee See.
