Sibu YMCA to revive its decades-old nature camp

Sibu YMCA has embarked on a strategic plan to re-energise its nature camp located 33km from the town centre.

Its president Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming said that for a start, YMCA would revive the camp which had been inactive for two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He has reached out to those in the creative industry and events management sector as well as tour operators to conduct site visits and give their feedback on activities that will bring the crowd back.

Lau said the five-hectare camp set in lush natural surroundings was a rich asset waiting to be rediscovered by the people.

“This camp opened more than 25 years ago.

“It was the go-to place for many people looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

“Families held barbecues while students and organisations came to camp or hold team-building activities here,” he said.

The camp offers four types of accommodation.

There is an idyllic camping ground on hilly terrain for those who love the outdoors while those more accustomed to creature comforts can stay in dormitories, hotel-style rooms and chalets.
