A NEW public daycare centre is being built for the elderly in Sibu, to be located on Jalan Archer.
The project is under the women’s wing of the Sarawak Malaysian Methodist Church’s Chinese Annual Conference (ACSC).
ACSC women’s wing president Ting Mie Ching said they were using their own funds for the project that cost RM1.5mil.
“The Methodist Girls’ Hostel is no longer in use. So we are renovating the ground floor for the elderly daycare centre,” she said after a simple groundbreaking ceremony for the project.
Mie Ching said the renovation would take six months to complete.
She said the works included installing safety features according to specifications from the fire department and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).
“We expect this daycare centre to start operating in January 2024 and it can accommodate a total of 60 senior citizens.”
She said it would operate from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm only.
She explained that there would not be accommodation provided, as it would be a daily daycare.
There would be a fee for the daycare service, she added.
