Alchemist, one of Singapore's leading speciality coffee brands, has established its first overseas outlet in Tokyo, marking a bold and exciting milestone in the company's growth journey. The two new locations—in the upmarket neighbourhood of Aoyama and the culturally rich neighbourhood of Asakusa—bring the brand's hallmark commitment to high-quality, design-led experiences to Japan's thriving coffee industry.

Alchemist, known for its minimalist appearance and commitment to quality, has established itself in Singapore by focusing solely on coffee. All beans are roasted in Singapore, and the company's identity as a coffee-only brand is firmly maintained throughout its Japanese expansion. With an annual rotation of 80 to 100 single-origin beans, Alchemist offers an unparalleled diversity, appealing to discerning coffee aficionados seeking consistency and quality in every cup.

The Aoyama store (pictured above), which opened on June 24, 2025, takes up two floors of the COERU Shibuya Building. It is within walking distance of both Omotesando and Shibuya Stations, making it convenient for both locals and visitors. The space, which measures approximately 140 square meters, provides a pleasant yet modern atmosphere with seating for approximately 30 guests. Coffee enthusiasts can enjoy over 10 menu items priced between ¥600 and ¥1,200. Service hours are everyday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Meanwhile, the Asakusa outlet (pictured below) opened shortly thereafter, on June 30, 2025. Nestled in one of Tokyo's most ancient areas, the 200-square-meter café provides a more roomy experience, with 70 chairs split across two floors. Located just a few minutes' walk from the Ginza Line's Asakusa Station, this location reflects the brand's minimalist beginnings while drawing architectural inspiration from its surroundings. The hours of operation are 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day.

In both locations, Alchemist maintains the philosophy that exceptional coffee should be approachable and accessible. The barista training course is a core of the brand's ideology, emphasising both skill development and workplace culture. Staff members are taught to understand every stage of coffee production, from planting and processing to roasting and brewing, ensuring constant, high-quality service. This dedication ensures that each cup tells a story, thoughtfully prepared and confidently served.

Looking ahead, Alchemist has announced ambitions to open up to ten locations in Tokyo by the end of 2028. This aspiration demonstrates a long-term dedication to integrating into Japan's vibrant café culture while remaining true to its Singaporean roots. Each new venue will be influenced by its local setting, resulting in a harmonious balance of global identity and regional inspiration.
