What was your favourite part about growing up?

Whatever your answer is, I hope you’re ready for some fun because Singapore Night Festival 2024 is returning to light up the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct. This year’s theme is Act of Play, and pays homage to the precinct being the birthplace of some of Singapore’s first schools. That said, the theme also explores the concept of play and childhood — so get ready to let your inner child run wild!

This year marks the 15th edition of the Singapore Night Festival and for the first time ever, the nocturnal experience will take place across three weekends from 23 August to 7 September 2024.

We get it, sometimes social studies and history lessons can get pretty… boring. This festival takes your regular classroom lessons out into the real world, so instead of just hearing about Bugis in the past, now you’ll get the chance to explore it firsthand through fun activities and cool installations.

The festival will light up the night skies with various luminous installations located along and around the Bugis Bras Basah area, all created by local and regional artists. As someone who does not have any art skills whatsoever, I am utterly blown away by these talented artists.

The festival will also feature food and retail experiences across numerous festival villages — very important especially since you’ll be getting your steps in throughout the night. Make sure to fuel up at the F&B booths in between stations or even pick up a little souvenir or two to remember your “night walk” adventure.

There’s even gonna be a retro-themed carnival titled Wonder World, where you’ll get to relive your childhood with some old-school carnival games.

To keep the festivities going, of course there’ll be musical performances to keep the party going. You can chill out and enjoy some soothing Jazz performances. For the first time, Singapore Night Festival will also be featuring series of xinyao singalong sessions — kinda like karaoke of sorts.

And in case you’re wondering what xinyao is, it is essentially mandarin songs by local Singaporean singers, that rose to fame in the 1970’s and 80’s.
