KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore-registered vehicle owners who fail to register or activate their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) by July 1 will be fined and must settle the penalty before leaving Malaysia.

The rule applies to all Singapore-registered vehicles entering Malaysia.

"To maintain road safety, the Malaysian government will proceed with full enforcement of the VEP requirement starting July 1 2025.

"From this date, summonses will be issued to foreign vehicle owners who have not registered or activated their VEP," the ministry said in a statement.

During the first phase of enforcement, authorities inspected 52,012 Singaporean vehicles and issued 2,245 reminder notices — about 4.32 per cent — to those without VEP registration.

As of June 2, only 36,511 out of 194,507 registered foreign private vehicles had activated their RFID tags for the permit.
