Snatch theft suspect dies after being assaulted

KAJANG: A man believed to be involved in an attempted snatch theft died after being apprehended and allegedly assaulted by members of the public in a residential area near Batu 9, Cheras.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received an emergency call at around 11.10am on Tuesday regarding an attempted snatch theft that targeted a 36-year-old woman who works as a teacher at a nearby kindergarten.

“Initial investigation revealed that the male suspect was caught by members of the public at the scene.

“Police personnel were dispatched and found the man unconscious and lying on the ground with visible injuries,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Medical personnel later confirmed the man had died from his injuries, he added.

“The suspect had no identification documents and is believed to be a foreign national.

“A post-mortem was conducted on the same day and the cause of death is currently pending a laboratory analysis by a forensic pathologist,” he said.

ACP Naazron said eight locals aged between 22 and 72 were detained at about 7.46pm on the same day of the incident.

“All suspects have been remanded for six days until Monday to assist in the ongoing investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
