SoftBank Group is considering buying Allied Universal, a US-based security services company, in a deal that could value Allied at about US$18 billion, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Talks are preliminary, and no final decisions have been made, including on price.
Allied could complement SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son’s AI infrastructure push because the company provides security and facility services for data centers.
Allied provides security staffing for businesses, venues, and events. SoftBank is also exploring the use of AI-powered robots across industries, and with Allied, it would eventually look to replace some human staff in certain security tasks. Humanoid security robots would likely take longer to deploy.
SoftBank’s automation push also includes its October 8, 2025, agreement to buy ABB’s robotics division for about US$5.4 billion.
