A woman in South Korea died after her boyfriend assaulted her more than 500 times in over three hours, according to a local investigative television show.

The case was termed as a "murder-torture" on an Oct 24 episode of SBS programme Unanswered Questions, reported The Herald Business.

The show identified the victim as 28-year-old Lim Jan-di (pseudonym), who lived with her 24-year-old boyfriend Jeon in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

On June 20, Jeon called emergency services to help his unconscious partner.

Paramedics reportedly found Lim in cardiac arrest and noticed signs of physical abuse on her.

Autopsy findings said that Lim had 21 broken ribs and multiple ruptured internal organs, reported SBS News.

However, it is not known if any of the injuries was a result of CPR.

The programme, citing CCTV footage captured from inside the apartment, alleged that Jeon had hit Lim about 515 times over the span about three and a half hours.

They also perused files and documents in the victim's phone and found that the couple had created a fictional country.

Lim and Jeon frequently referred to a set of rules drawn up for the country, which they referred to as "gukpeu" in short for "national project".

According to the production team of Unanswered Questions, Jeon described "gukpeu" as rules the couple created and agreed upon to fight less.

Terms included sentences such as "the moment you choose a lie, you are ineligible for any humane treatment", and "once punishment begins, no explanation or justification whatsoever is possible".

Jeon has reportedly admitted to assaulting Lim, but said he had no intention to kill her, reported SBS News.
