Space revelation: Aurora Borealis effect detected on MARS for first time
Green line emissions caused by the excitation of oxygen in the atmosphere are responsible for the primary colour of the polar aurorae on Earth. This also causes a thin green glow seen in the daytime at an altitude of around 56 miles (90km) in our planet's atmosphere.
